batman's darkest hour
batman 497 is the landmark issue when the villain bane breaks batman's back. this story is not just one big fight scene, there are flashbacks of all the events leading up to batman's failing health from taking on all the inmates bane broke out of arkham asylum, and little touches in the story like batman remembering Jason todd as bane throws batman through the display case where he keeps robin's costume, bane pretty much throws batman all over the cave, even the giant penny lands on him at one point, and when it finally reaches that moment when bane lifts him up and breaks his back over his knee you will never feel for the dark knight more then this moment. this along with the death of superman is one of the most important events in comics of the 90's.
