Knob kit inserts weren't the right size
I have an old oven from 1982. None of the colorful inserts fit as needed- their height was twice what it should be for my oven. So while the insert fit the knobs, it raised them a good half inch higher off the stove when put on- so not even feasible.
Plan B was to just take the circular numbers plate on top, remove it from the new knobs, and glue them onto my old knobs (that's why I ordered them in the first place- all the numbers and markings had worn away off the old dials.) So in the end I was able to get what I needed from this- without using the new dials or inserts at all.
