Two, no, three thumbs up!
1 of 1 found this helpful Mr. Fred Rogers would approve! Need we say more? No foul language. A tender family story that's engaging for youngsters as well as for adults who are young at heart. And it's entertaining! There's mystery, fantasy, adventure, diversity. The kind of story with values that the family can talk about around the dinner table. Please, turn off your smartphones while watching this movie. It deserves your attention. Make a bucket of popcorn, and enjoy!

Still holds viewer attention
A simple detective plot-line set in Havana, Cuba with enough twists and turns to still keep viewers' attention. This film is in B&W from 1956-57, long before 007 shot one of his multimillion dollar extravaganzas in color in the island. I watched it with a group of American friends who have recently visited Cuba. The Big Boodle validated my description to them of a Havana that was beautiful and modern, before the Castro Revolution turned it into what my friends saw--a capital city that is a shadow of its former splendor in a country that is falling apart physically and morally. So there are two levels of enjoyment here: One is the story, and the other is the "picture postcard" registered as a historical point of comparison. I recommend this film on the merits of either or both levels of appreciation.
