Lots of features, but no tuner
15 of 15 found this helpful When I purchased this DVD/VCR combo, I was looking for 3 things:
1) Basic VCR for the kids to watch their old tapes on.
2) S-VHS VCR to play back some old camcorder tapes that I needed to get into the computer for some editing.
3) An upconverting DVD player.
The Sony VX560 provides all of these in one box, which is very nice for reducing some of the clutter in the entertainment center, especially since it can be connected with only a single HDMI cable. To top it off, it's a DVD recorder, which is a feature I wasn't even looking for.
Good Stuff:
- One touch copying from VHS to DVD, or DVD to VHS.
- Even the VCR can play out the HDMI output, with upconversion. Too many of these combo type boxes require separate cables for the VCR and DVD sections.
- Firewire and USB jacks on the front, so you can watch or record from your digital camcorder, or even dump photos from a camera to DVD for a slideshow.
Limitations:
- No tuner.
- Slow to load most disks. Close the tray and wait....
- No S-VHS recording, only playback. Can only record regular VHS format.
- Refuses to copy most copyrighted VHS tapes to DVD.
- Refuses to record some copyrighted TV shows to DVD.
