Nikon AF Nikkor 300mm F/4 ED IF Telephoto w/ original case and box

    A bargain-priced workhorse
I bought one of these after reading some glowing reviews, and I'm so glad I did. I shoot sports, and I carry two or three Nikon bodies, and four or five lenses. I wanted a relatively small, sturdy 300mm that wasn't too expensive, had good sharpness, and would work reliably in most lighting situations. This lens definitely ticks all those boxes, plus it has a scratch-resistant crinkle-finish that looks great. I've used it a lot more than I expected to, and the results have been excellent. I paid $400 for mine, over a year ago, and it's by far the best value-per-dollar lens purchase I've ever made.

    Great camera!
I'll start with the bad news. In low light, the Foveon sensor used in all Sigma digital cameras is not as good as the Bayer sensors used in all other digital cameras. Besides that, the quality of the SD15 photos in good light is better than any other camera can produce, no matter how much money you spend. I'm including both the RAW and JPG images produced by the SD15. Others have claimed that the JPG output of the SD15 is poor quality. I've used two SD15s since they were first introduced, and the JPG quality is excellent, as long as you understand that the SD15 is not a point-and-shoot camera. You have to know what you're doing and have a basic understanding of photography. I also use a couple of high-end Nikons, and the output of my SD15 compares to, and exceeds what I get from my Nikons, the only difference being in low-light situations.

    Be careful! Gray market warning.
If the camera is listed as an "international model", that means it is a "gray market" camera, instead of a USA model. Nikon USA will NOT honor any warranties on these cameras, nor will they accept them for repair, even if you offer to pay for it.
