The Chauvet Swarm Wash FX is a great light fixture, but...
1 of 1 found this helpful The effects this unit creates are all awesome, but the strobes never actually strobe! The white LED's flash in various different patterns, but never actually alternate on/off like you would expect of a strobe - the end result on the dance floor is they're just another white wash light of varying intensity. I now use modes that disable the strobes because white wash lights aren't what I wanted.
My unit also arrived with the derby mirrors free floating in the fixture. Rather than send it back for a lengthy and costly international return process, I broke the warranty seals and had a look... What I found is that the grub screws that affix the derby mirror assembly to the motor shaft had been over-tightened in the factory, leading to cracks in the plastic hub, and a very loose fit that would only need a small bump to make them fall off. I was able to fix it with some super glue and a zip tie, but some of the mirrors picked up scratches as it floated around the fixture in transit, so the light can't be called 'as good as new' unfortunately.
Between the non-strobing strobes, and the poorly designed/assembled derby mirror assembly, I have to say overall it fell well below expectations of a product from a brand like Chauvet. It still gets 4 stars because the rest of it is just still so awesome.
