The War Lover
5 of 5 found this helpful This is a great war flick, especially since it features Steve McQueen. Basically it's a love triangle story set during WWII but concerns a B-17 pilot and his crew. The movie is gritty and filled with tension between McQueen and his copilot Robert Wagner. The acting and story line are good but unfortunately the movie was shot in black and white. There are a lot of shots in and around B-17s and the movie shows many Army Air Corp procedures in handling these big bombers that are all too rare now. The one scene where McQueen decides to buzz the field and tower is really impressive; a B-17 moving at 180+ mph at less than 20 feet altitude pass after pass! Wow!! That stunt pilot earned his pay that day, one small 15 degree bank and he'd have dragged his wingtip all across that field! A+ movie definitely worth the ticket of admission, especially if you appreciate old vintage aircraft.

The Cars cd
2 of 2 found this helpful Why is it that the first album of nearly every group I can name is one of the best they ever produced? Perhaps it's because they pour all their best material and time into the project to break into the industry in a big way. Such is the case of the Cars fist album aptly named The Cars. Just like the first Boston or Emerson, Lake and Palmer's album, the Cars have some of their best work they ever recorded on this disc. Look at the title list, it reads like a "most played" radio list from 1978 or 79; Good Times Roll, My Best Friend's Girl, Just What I Needed, Don't Cha Stop, You're All I've Got Tonight and my two favorites, Bye Bye Love and Moving In Stereo! What a terrific album! It has that edgy punk sound that was just getting started in 1978, yet still retains some elements of the art rock movement of the 1970s. Ric Ocasek has a killer way of delivering the vocals, sometimes smooth and lyrical and other times resembling something like a machine gun, his voice having the rough edge of a two pack a day smoker. Greg Hawkes' keyboard work is thoughtful, classic and fits the music perfectly. The lead guitar licks laid down by Elliot Easton are biting, tasty, and, well, let's just say the disk is an A+ all around. It's well executed and well mixed. Give it a spin, you'll love it!
