Outstanding upgrade, Made in USA!
My vintage Craftsman 3-wheel, 12" band saw still had the factory rubber tires on it, and they were not in good shape. Deformed in some spots, frayed in others and generally looking like they had passed their expiration date, I was in need of replacements. Seeing as how urethane tires are all the rage, I decided to give them a shot, but wanted to make sure I got a quality product, given the hassle involved in replacing them.
That's where these bad boys come into the mix. I was pleasantly surprised to see they were Made in USA, and that gave me the confidence that they would be made properly, to tight tolerance and with high quality materials. When they arrived and I opened them up, I was not disappointed in the least.
The installation was pretty straight forward, and most of my time was spent cleaning up the wheels and removing what was left of the OE rubber tires. The hardest part is, of course, installing the new tires. I remove the wheels from the machine, and opted to clamp the wheel vertically in a large bench vise (delicately, using cloth or a glove) and then pull the rest of the tire on by hand. This takes about 30 seconds at most, and is far easier and faster than messing with a wooden dowel or bothering with heat.
Once installed, the product looks and functions amazingly well. Quieter runner and much better grip, without needing as much tension. Given that it's a 3-wheel band saw, I'm sure less tension will help reduce the risk of breaking blades, not to mention less wear on the bearings.
Overall, these tires are simply an outstanding product and absolutely a great value. Last but not least, because they are made in USA, these replacement tires are something that I am proud to use on my vintage Craftsman band 12", 3-wheel band saw.
Highly recommended!

Exceptional Ratchet!
Easco round head, fine tooth ratchets are among the best that were ever made, and you really can't go wrong with such a tried and true design.
These were originally produced decades ago and even had their design licensed to brands like Craftsman and KD, among others, but the handle design on the Easco, with its classic knurling and raised panel, is without a doubt the best variation.
These ratchets feature 41 teeth and a dual-pawl mechanism, giving them an effective 82-tooth movement. They also have a quick release button, so that sockets remain locked until you want to release them, and also the thumbwheel/speeder, so you can make fine advancements. Back drag is very low on these ratchets, and they work beautifully smooth. They are exceptionally robust and you will likely never wear out, much less break one, even if you occasionally abuse them. They are rock solid, precision made and a pleasure to use.
Get one while you can, as they are becoming increasingly hard to find, especially the original Easco. You will not regret it.

An awesome 30-tooth ratchet from the the good old days...
3 of 3 found this helpful The F830 ratchet is probably one of Snap On's best designs in recent memory. Late 90s and early 2000s, this is what you probably lusted for. The build quality is one of the best they have ever produced, and I would say it is easily the most robust 3/8" ratchet in my box. Tight tolerances, forged handle, positive direction selector, very little back drag, well balanced in the hand and fully sealed, this ratchet is just about everything you could have wanted for at the time.
Yes, it's only a 30-tooth mechanism, and that is considered "coarse" among purists and fine tooth fanbois, but what many people overlook is the minimal head size on this thing. The newer models like the F936 and even newer F80 both have a noticeably larger ratchet head, so they simply won't in as many places as the old F830. As the saying goes, there's no free lunch, and the higher tooth counts and fancier ratcheting mechanisms come at a price. Is the difference huge? No, of course not, but it's there none the less and worth keeping in mind.
Abstract away from the tooth count and size of the ratchet head itself and you've still got one of the finest American made ratchets there is, certainly of its time, and a signature piece of history from the twilight of the 20th century. There's a certain sense of nostalgia when using an F830, and it takes you back to wrenching in the 1990s when this bad boy was the end all, be all. Even if you're not looking for a trip down memory lane, they're still worth picking up and having as a backup. You can't ever have too many ratchets, especially 3/8" ratchets, and you could do far worse than one of these fine specimens.
It's getting difficult to find good condition specimens of this increasingly rare breed, so don't hesitate if you spot a nice one. You probably don't need another ratchet, but sometimes ownership is reason enough. :)
