Reliable hose pipe fittings.
Well made fittings. Over the (many) years I have had various fittings. Those "other makes" which came with hose pipes would last two or three years before getting wobbly and stiff to release. I ended up buying Hozelock, which lasted at least fifteen years, and are now just beginning to become more difficult to release. I reckon that's a good service record. I had no hesitation in buying Hozelock again, and the price was very reasonable. Yes, you can save a bit by going for the cheap versions, but it really isn't worth the effort. Happy hosing!

Excellent BA nuts
Hornby Dublo model railways from the 1940s to early 1960s used BA nuts and bolts. These half nuts are perfect replacements, and got me out of a bit if a fix.

Model railway nostalgia
These old Hornby Dublo locos were built like tanks. Seemingly indestructible, easily repairable. The only downside is their magnet, which diminishes over time. If you can get it re-magnetised, the loco will pull as strongly as the day it left the factory. Far more robust than modern locos, which will break if you happen to pick them up the wrong way. There's great satisfaction to be had in bringing to life a model railway from the 1950s.
