The Empire of Ice
This was an excellent read. An undersea volcano south of iceland burts it way to the surface overnight, blocking the North Atlantic current that warms the shores of Europe. In a few short weeks, the British Isles are engulfed in a new Ice Age, as temperatures plunge to sub-artic levels. The spewing volcano makes the Atlantic Ocean nearly impassable.
In a few short months, icebergs invade the English Channel, and the Irish Sea freezes over. The biggest threat comes from those who see the catastrophe as an opportunity to gain power. Throw in the increasing tensions between Ireland and Britain, British fascist politicians, and a pack of starving, man-eating wolves that escaped from an Irish zoo and ravage anyone foolish enough to come out on the ice too close to their pack and their leader Beelzebub, and you have an explosive mix of possible tragedies.
Men must brave the wolves while they attempt to set up a geothermal source of energy from a resevoir under the ice of the Irish Sea. There is one explosive situation after another all through the book. One of the most facinating places ever built, a huge biosphere with several different ecological systems under its glass may be the only hope of survival for mankind in Britain and Ireland. The author has an obvious knowledge of geothermics, climatology, and ecology, that give the story a realism too close for comfort.

Looks, really pretty and stylish, but replicates the actual voices of the singers rather poorly
I bought this unit at Walmart and I really liked its appearance, but when I compared it to another one, the sound did not replicate the true sound of the several that I tried in either the CD or record player apps very well at all. Celtic Women did not sound very good in the CD app, and the Album and 45 records I tried did not replicate the sound of the artists played very well. In fact, I would not have recognized one singer at all on one of my33 1/3 Albums. I was very disappointed. I wish that I could swap the inner parts of the plainer, better sounding machine with this better looking one. I had been so sure that the larger, prettier unit would have sounded much better. The Mahogany finish is really lovely.
