Remote Stopped Working Properly

TV seems fine, about what we expected for the price. The remote stopped working after a couple weeks. We discovered that it does still work, but it has to be pointed very precisely at the sensor on the TV - an area not more than a square inch or two. I'm not kidding, point it two inches to either side and nothing happens. No TV I've ever owned has had an issue like this - pretty disappointing. Historically we've had good luck with cheaper brands, Hisense, Changhong, etc, but probably won't buy TCL again.
