Cambridge Audio Integrated Amplifier 60W CX Series 8ohm 2-Channel (Black CXA60)

Hugely Impressive!!!

This is an excellent amplifier. This unit shows that power isn't everything, but the circuitry behind it makes all the difference. I have an AZUR 851A and Edge Amp and love both units, so when I seen the CXA60 available refurbished for such a great price, I wanted to try it out for my LS50 Meta's in my home office. I read in reviews the CXA60/61 are more energetic than the CXA80/81 integrated amps, which was spot on. I tried the CXA81 and it was too warm sounding for me. I felt like I was missing too much detail. The bummer with the newer line is that they do away with tone controls. This CXA60 has tone control and the sound is brilliantly dynamic, detailed, and weighty. It has no problem powering my LS50 Metas, nor my Q950 towers. I even have an Emotiva XPA Gen 3 and I think I prefer this amp to that. The XPA is a little dry sounding...more like a Class D. Another benefit to the CXA60 is it doesn't get near as hot as the other Cambridge amplifiers I've mentioned. The AZUR series gets ridiculously hot and the Edge gets very warm. The Emotiva is barely warm. The biggest difference from the amps I've mentioned is sound stage. The other's can better pinpoint the location of sounds and place the voice in the center. The CXA60 is good, but if you aren't in the center sweetspot of the room, the sound stage starts to dissipate and you can locate the speakers. I can't speak to the DAC in the CXA60 as I'm just using the analog input. But it's essentially the DacMagic 100 and I've had one of those for a while. It's a good sounding DAC for the pricepoint.

Bright and high quality light

The light feels very high quality and durable. I was pretty shocked at how bright it is. The zoom feature is nice, but it isn’t as wide of a range as I’d expect. It’s real nice how the one end rotates to expose the micro USB charging port. Keep in mind, when charging the light, the status LED is red when charging, then it flashes green when above 80%, and a solid green when at 100%.
