BSX Kevlar sleeves
1 of 1 found this helpful First I'd like to say that people need to stop trying to stab and slash these just to end up leaving a bad review. These are a safety aid not chainmail for battle you LARPers. They are "cut resistant" not cut proof. Please understand the difference!
These sleeves are a bit itchy but spatter is more so. I like these in place of a hot leather jacket when baking in the sun. Flux core welding spatter hasn't penetrated enough to complain about so far. I don't have tree trunks or Popeye arms like some so, stretching hasn't been a big problem. Some upper arm opening elastic stretching from putting on like others have mentioned. Easy enough to sew elastic ribbon inside to remedy this. I like being to rest my arms against decently hot material without getting burned. I'm not telling people to put their arms in their gas forge or hold your cutting torch over your arm, be reasonable. These do help in avoiding the normal minor burns and cuts people encounter.
I bought a buddy a pair for working on his diesel. I think they'd be great for exhaust fab people and blacksmiths (with the thumb hole not being used). Arborists perhaps, though I don't know what sap would do to them.
I like them and have a pair for the work truck and one for the shop. I'll buy more when needed.

5/16 ferro rods
Good rods. Slightly larger than 5/16. Can be sanded down or turned in a lathe slowly to achieve 5/16 for a handle or sheath.

ChemSharp
There is technique to using this product as others have said.
I sharpen several at once usually on a bench belt sander. The dust bothers me and I can't breathe normal for a couple days.
I use pliers and a propane torch for the ChemSharp. Clean off the white slag with a 1700 rpm bench wire wheel. This product polishes the tungsten decently. A drill and a sander is much faster and consistent but I'm exploring this option for the breathing problems. I so far have used it only a dozen times but it is repeatable with more use. Photo is half ChemSharp and half drill and belt sander.
