This book by Forstchen is an ominous warning. It reinforces the sum of the U S Congress's worst fears, not if it will happen but when.
The story is a realistic representation of what it may someday be like struggling to survive in a world where the only laws that exist are the ones accepted and recognized in a isolated Appalachian town following a Electromagnetic Pulse melt down that plunges the entire country back into the technology of the Nineteenth century.

15 Months in SOG by Thom Nicholson
1 of 2 found this helpful I like the writers clear insights as he describes the characters that he knew. Some of them are too incredible not to be true. When I was in Viet Nam I knew people who were very much like many of the characters that Nicholson described. And much of the activities that we participated in were done in a business as usual non-chalant way. As incredible as it may seem, I was not a seal but I knew Seals who sumarily beheaded viet Cong and thought nothing of it as blood spewed on their uniforms while they did it. Business as usual. At that age and under those conditions sympathy for the human condition was something that could get you killed. War is brutal, it has to be because that is it's nature. There is no way to make it palatable because it is in fact hell.
The reason I bought the book was to look for plausable explanations for the disapearance of approximately 36 Scuba-Demo commando knives made in Seki,Japan that were issued to some of the SOG teams. To date no one seems to be forthcoming as to where those (extremely rare and sought after knives went to. However, having been there and done two combat tours (one in Viet Nam, one in Desert Storm),Anybody who has can tell you "combat Loss". Once in combat the COMSHAW artist reins supreme. I simply was curious from a personal point of view. I collect combat knives.

For a parang it is ok but there is too much angle on the cut. If it had been swaged down to about 15 degrees or less it would have made a much better
1 of 1 found this helpful This parang has excellent steel. excellent balance, all things considered, it is an excellent knife. The angle of cut needs to be adjusted to 12 to 15 degrees instead of what it is now about 22.5 because it would dig into the wood youre cutting safer rather than glancing off. This can be a problem when cutting bamboo. But for the money and the blade, it is a good machete.
