This quarter design is possibly the most beautiful design to ever come out of the U.S.mint. This year(1927) the coin was issued by 3 different mints. The "P" mint(Philadelphia) and the "D" mint(Denver)issues are fairly common in all grades up to and including Uncirculated. The "S" mint from San Francisco is also readily available in the lower condition grades up to and including VF(Very Fine). When we try to obtain this coin in EF(Extremely Fine)or better, the coin becomes classed as a condition sensitive issue, meaning it is scarce in the higher grades. The price guides bear this out as a lower grade coin can be purchased for well less than a $100, but this coin can cost well in excess of $2000 in AU (About Uncirculated). In Uncirculated the coin approaches $5000. I might mention that all three issues are considered scarce in what is termed "Full Head". This refers to the strike quality of "Miss Liberty's" Head. The 1927-s stands out "head" and "shoulders" above the rest as it was poorly struck and commands a price for "FH" in excess of $30,000.
