still timely
Prof. Hanson was in the middle of things then, now and probably always. His sense of time and space relative to society is especially vivid in Fields Without Dreams. It seems I have met each of his characters and because of that he is familiar. Best document I have seen on the troubled 80's in production agriculture. Multiple sides of financials, prescription chemicals, marketing, diversity of attitudes and philosophies are apparent through his wise use of words. .

Timely subject with vivid characters in action filled pages would not come close to describing this outstanding read. Trust nobody to judge for you...This is an experience to be enjoyed firsthand.

Great read with unique setting.
McLaughlin is a true wordsmith, his characters unique and his plot compelling....Must have another of his works...
