Too fundamentalist
1 of 3 found this helpful As much as I respect Ratzinger as the Pope he used to be, I have a a problem with his too literilist interpretation of scripture. He draws heavily on germon sources too the expense of a more globel understanding which one would expect from the pope. He draws numerous parallels between the old and new testaments, which at times seem a bit stretched. Nevertheless, his scholarship and knowledge of scripture is outstanding. Albeit drawn heavily from German sources, as one would expect. In my opinion, he is too literalist in his treatment of scripture, and draws too heavily on old testament scripture to support the new. Overall, this book is a sound achievement in exceges, but short on spirit.
