its as loud as a manowar concert, but i just needed frame, using pwn fans cuz i dont need jet engines.
its noisy as fk, but i just needed the frame not the fan for (ancient, proprietary) chassis

expensive like all supermicro chassis but very solid
didn't need the dual expander but its hard to beat new for less than 1500$
the fans can run off the backplane but...are super load, doesnt seem to be any PWM on them. connected them to the mobo instead.
the PSU alarm sounds if the 2nd PSU is unplugged...annoying. put a tiny bit of fun tack over the speaker...much better.

great board, IPMI is godlike
wasn't familiar with the server specific heatsink/backplate and io shield which threw me off a little bit since planned to put in a desktop-type case, but the board itself works great.
added proc and RAM and worked with zero problems on first boot.
put a 80mm fan on the heatsink and found a desktop style i/o shield, should do the job nicely.
great buy (1/2 price of new)
