A Great Go-Everywhere Lens
After doing much research on the Nikon D3000, I ended up deciding to purchase the body from one place, and the lens(es) separately. At first I considered buying the standard 18-55mm lens along with the 55-200mm lens. But then I considered that, if I did that, I'd be toting around 2 lenses, and I'd probably be swapping them out quite a bit, which would put more wear on them and the camera body. It was then that I decided to go with this lens - the 18-105mm lens. I am really enjoying it - it's got excellent wide-angle, but also enough zoom for someone like me who enjoys taking pictures of flowers and bugs. However, sometimes you have to get fairly close to a very small object to get the best picture, since this isn't a SUPER zoom. If I'd had $700 or $1,000 extra laying around, I probably would have invested in the 75-300mm lens. But I can't complain about this one. It takes a great picture, and it's super portable, which I like a lot for when I roam around the countryside. I highly recommend it.
