One of the greatest box-sets ever released.
What a phenomenal product. 14 original studio albums and 3 discs of formidable outtakes. It is rare for me to obsess over an artist to the extent I did over Nilsson; I've been listening to his music for at least two hours a day (often quite a bit more) for about six weeks, and am not tiring of it.
It has been said that Nilsson's voice shaped songs the way Jimi's guitar did; this is a good way of putting it. 'Nilsson Sings Newman' (1970) comprises some of the greatest vocal performances ever committed to tape, and the three discs of outtakes are full of vocal calisthenics of the highest order. But the way Nilsson constructed songs - he never constructed a poor melody, and his sonic/aesthetic taste was immaculate - makes him, all told, the greatest singer-songwriter in music history. And I say this as a staunch fan of the Beatles, Dylan, Young, Mitchell, Reed, the Clash, and Jake Thackray.
Shell out for this product: it will not disappoint.

Amazing album
1 of 1 found this helpful 'Quadrophenia' has aged incredibly well, and packs a hell of a punch -- it's the Who's most impressive album. The remastering is wonderful, Pete Townshend supplies thoughtful new liner notes (as well as the liner notes and photobook that accompanied the original 1973 album, which have been reproduced here), and the packaging is sturdy. I do have one gripe: it mystifies me as to why "Bell Boy" was included on Disc 2 rather than Disc 1. Putting it on Disc 1 would not only have allowed room for another demo on Disc 2, it would also -- more importantly -- mean that Sides 1-3 of the double album are on Disc 1, which would reflect the original and make narrative sense. It's baffling than Townshend signed off on it this way. Otherwise, no complaints -- 'Quadrophenia' remains a staggering achievement. The two instrumentals are especially impressive.

Wonderful album with great liner notes
A superb compilation -- mostly Senegal-specific, but strays into other countries occasionally. One hell of a kick, this is quirkily, inspirationally energetic.
