Having travelled aboard this ship on many occasions as a child its a pleasure to collect her memorabilia as she is currently being stripped and will be sunk off the coast of Florida. My purchase was excellent and sent in good time. I will be happy to recommend this eBay seller as honest and trustworthy. Thank you sincerely.

The real Habana!
The smell; of two stoke oil and horse dung, the sounds; of revving engines from cars of a past, great era , the salsa music from every street corner and doorway; the people; kind hearted people, ok, they want to turn a buck, but their true spirit shines through, "We are not poor, we just don't have any money".
Words; none, in no way can words alone conjure up the get under the skin place that is Havana.
How many Cities can you stand on a corner for hours and be mesmerised by passing traffic, the shabby grandeur of your surroundings doted with buildings granted World Heritage Status. Dominating every thing the exact replica of the Capitol building of America.
This city is never still or silent and every conflict, every dictator has left a mark on this City.
We wandered the back streets, away from the hype of tourism, and gazed in awe at buildings many that had a Spanish influence that had had the ravages of the Caribbean hurricanes, sweltering heat and neglect of years of dictator led poverty.
Home is the sole of the nation and every day Cubans perform a miracle to keep their homes alive.
I would like to have the time to come back to Cuba and just spend time photographing the homes, buildings and people.
Sadly I can only 'dream on' but this book is one small step to this realisation.
Cecelia Lawless was able to communicate her desire to do just this and become a welcome part of the community which is Habana. She did not set out to impose her preconceived ideas but watched, listened and photographed this wonderful City.
The book has a real feel for the people of Havana it's hardships, it's pleasures, sense of community and even an understanding of the religious practicing.
Above all the photographs in the book are of an excellent standard and far beyond the 'coffee book' style of so many publications.
While the title is what it says in the book it would not be eye catching or descriptive enough to jump off the list of books to pre trip read on Cuba for the first time visitor. To help to get to grips with this city this books is better that so many of the tourist led guides where you will be told where to stay and eat in the city while not having a clue about the real Havana.
I would highly recommend this book to a first time or repeat visitor and get out of the tourist traps and see this the real Cuba. At the time of writing the vultures are waiting for the pickings as the Castro dynasty starts to come to an end and changes are inevitable. So go beyond the pictures and see and feelCuba for yourself.
