Restoration perfect
1 of 1 found this helpful My son-in-law had his great great grandfather's Brodie helmet in the back of his garage. It was very rusty and only a strand of the liner was left. But enough was left to identify which type of liner was used. So I offered to restore the helmet. I wire brushed as much rust as I could and used a "rusty steel" primer paint on both sides (the color was PERFECT). Then I mixed some sawdust with the top coat (canned spray paint) to duplicate the American style of reflection reduction (the British used fine sand but we have more trees than they did). With a felt point pen I wrote in his ancestor's name and AEF 1917-1918 inside the forward brim. On Memorial Day we had dinner at his parents' house so I walked in, wearing the helmet, and sang the WW I son "Over There". My son-in-law's grandmother was also there and was extremely pleased by the way (and "speed") I restored a treasured family heirloom. It is now in a place of honor above the hearth in my daughter's and son-in-law's home where my four grandchildren will learn what their ancestors have done.
Hmmm. Now where have I stored that modified jet pilot helmet I wore when I was a tank commander in M-41 Walker "Bulldog" tanks? Oh well, I have a 48,000 tonne Battleship just a 20 minute drive from here and I signed up my son-in-law as a volunteer electrician. Well, I am the ship's Naval Architect that reactivated all four of them in the 1980's that WON THE COLD WAR. Yes, I'm both Army AND Navy, especially anything made of ARMOR.

Days it will be flown.
I have a 15 ft flagpole at my home with the standard 3 X 5 Stars & Stripes. This flag will fly just below on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day.
