Avel toroidal transformer - excellent
1 of 1 found this helpful This Avel transformer was used in a very high resolution two channel preamp with built-in phono stage and the result was excellent. You can see this preramp if you Google PS Audio 4.6, click on images and the second photo should show the inside of my preamp (the inside view with a lot of rectangular green film caps). With the Avel there was no mechanical noise and with an ear to the speaker on phono everything was very quiet. The sound was what I expected from a quality high VA toroidal transformer - much lower noise floor resulting in more detail being revealed on all sources.
The result compares very well to my experience with Hammond and Plitron transformers in preamps.
I highly recommend the Avel.

Vintage transistors (improved)?
These transistors are vintage highly praised low noise devices from the height of the low noise small signal transistor period (the Golden age). These transistors, to my ear are actually even better than the originals. This is possible because they were manufactured on new equipment with 40 years of technical advances.

Panasonic FM, and FC capacitors - excellent, and affordable
There are several serious electrolytic capacitors on the market for serious audio. I've used most of them from Rubycon Black Gate, Elna Cerafine, and Silmic, I find the Panasonic FM and FC capacitors to be very neutral even in serious circuits like phono stages in PS Audio 4.6 and 5.5 preamps, Parasound 1000a power amps, and the magnificent Marantz MA 700 power amp (magnificent in two channel - two speaker systems) NEVER bridge these amps!!!
