On-the-go sports fun
1 of 1 found this helpful Perfect pick-up-and-play type of game. I LOVE the horse racing sport which even features a Nintendogs-like mini game "Stable," where you take care of a horse and bond with it over walks, brushing, and more! The other game modes are also enjoyable, though the team sports will require longer sessions of gameplay in case you play on the go. This is the first Mario Sports game I've played and I recommend it for casual gameplay with your favorite cast of Nintendo characters.

Flowery read yielding hard to believe characters + plot
The Secret Life of Bees is about Lily Owens,a young girl living on a peach farm with her abusive father T.Ray.Her nanny,Rosaleen,is probably one of her only true companions,and it is she the leads her on a journey to finding out about her mother and on a path of forgiveness.
Lily,the protagonist,has been motherless from early age.Fueled by the angst created from events that have occured before,Lily yearns to learn more about her mother.Though it seemed impossible for her to leave her home,she does so after Rosaleen lands herself in jail after insulting the three biggest white racists in town.She helps her escape from jail,and they venture to Tiburon,South Carolina-a town written on her mother's picture of a black Madonna.
Up until that part of the book everything in the plot seemed believeable.But,the story continues on in a less than believeable fashion.Instantaneously,she finds herself at the pink house of the Boatwright sisters-August,May,and June.They are beekeepers and honey makers who happened to know Lily's mother.
This aspect of the plot seemed too brief and there was little elaboration.It was like Lily was "destined to find" the sisters in an all to sudden fashion.The sisters take her in and allow her and Rosaleen to live and work in their house and business.Wanting to protect herself and Rosaleen,Lily conceals her true motives for being in Tiburon.That element of the story bothered me greatly.I wanted to scream to Lily,on numerous occasions,to tell the truth and come clean.But,this did not happen on those occasions.
Along the way,Lily falls in love with Zach,an African-American boy around her age that works on the bee farm.Their relationship does not feel autentic-in unfolds in a plain way.Nonetheless,they know they cannot be together considering the times they are in,but Zach "promises to find a way" for the to be together.
Predictably,by the end of the book,Lily comes clean and has an emotional talk with August.She learns things about her mother that anger her for days,but is able to forgive her after much pondering and self-evaluation.
The book was not the best I've read lately.There was no real climax,and I felt the story needed a bit of fine tuning in terms of delivering an authentic story.
Was the book a complete disappointment? No. Could it have been better? Yes.

A poignant short tale about finding happiness
1 of 1 found this helpful The Pearl is one of my favorite books.The story revolves around a poor fisher named Kino, who finds a magnificent pearl that he hopes will help his wife and young son,Coyotito.Initially,Kino begins the quest to assume wealth from the pearl with the intent to benefit his family,but ever so slowly,he leads himself on a path to self-destruction,which ultimately leads to a tragedy.I found the underlying message of greed and the meaning of true wealth to be an excellent culmination to the story.The book displays the ability of a well intended individual to stray away from goodness when an opportunity for wealth is prevented.The Pearl delivers a timeless message that all readers will enjoy.
