Experience setting up and configuring the Velop system
I have been reasonably pleased with my Velop system. I would give it five stars except for two things. Full disclaimer... I'm fairly technical and I am accustomed to simply setting up my equipment and configuring it the way I want. This system requires you to use their mobile app for setup and configuration. Then it takes you through a frustrating step by step process on the mobile app. "Is your device plugged in? {clicks yes}. Do you see a slow blinking blue indicator light on top of the device? {clicks no}. What color is the light? {clicks purple}. ....analyzing.....analyzing.... Please unplug your device from the wall and wait 10 seconds. Have you reconnected power? {clicks yes}. etc etc. This methodology is *perfect* for a non-technical person who wants a basic configuration and needs to get up and running with a minimum of frustration. For a technical person who knows what they are doing, it was infuriating. The other negative is that the I already have ethernet cable run throughout my house. I want the wireless nodes to exchange data using the ethernet cabling. Cable is always better than wireless.
But I can't figure out how to make this change using the dumbed down customer interface. Nevertheless, I've got it working and it really does go smoothly if you just answer the questions and follow the step by step process. I live in a neighborhood where the houses are on 1/2 acre lots. I cannot advise on how the Velop works in high density housing like apartment buildings. FWIW, I have 1GB fiber to the house. using fast.com, I have gotten more than 350mb/s on wifi, standing next to the Velop node.
