A Paradym Shift on Practising Virtures
This is a philosophical treatise of what Reverence is and what the cultivation of Reverence means to an individual, communities, governments and world cultures. Taking two ancient, philosophical traditions as the foundation of his work, Paul Woodruff clarifies how Greek and Chinese philosophers applied Reverence to war, religion, governance and everyday relationships. Then Woodruff contrasts the practice of, or lack of practice, in today's world.
What is exciting are the breakdown and definition of what Reverence actually is. He clarifies why Reverence is a virtue - that rarefied class of universal understanding that transcends culture. But, Woodruff doesn't just stop there; he lays bare the human emotions which trigger Reverence: awe, shame and respect.
This is an important book by a philosopher to watch, read and study. Reverence is heady stuff, important stuff. In the end, the reader experiences what it is to unravel the heart's longing for unity, understanding and completion...by remembering a lost virtue, one cultivated thought at a time.

The best book with unusual beginner basic content. Really loved it!
Marilyn MacEwen has captured just the right attitude showing how to prepare for woodworking, how to measure what you'll need for a project, how to make your own 'board-foot stick' before going to shop, choosing the right wood, and knowing how to handle yourself at a lumber yard or hardwood supplier. Very useful and savvy information. I appreciated the math explanation on board feet laid out in an easy-to-understand style. The rest of the book is very well written with good photos of equipment, techniques and projects. Particularly handy are the Cut Lists & Supplies along with the illustrated Overviews given for each project. The paperback book is laminated with heavy weight paper, that stays open where you need it to when referring to a particular page. Whether you want to make one of her projects, or get an idea of how to lay out your own, this book illustrates easy to understand woodworking techniques. AAA++++
