Outstanding value for long range hunting to 2000 yards
I've been using this range finder for several years now and just had to post a review. I have been elated with this product since I first used it for 1000 yard elk hunting several years ago and have to sing its praises for other hunters seeking highly effective long range distance calculation. I just returned from prairie dog shooting last week and was so happy with it. I could easily range a single p-dog on a mound at 600 yards; probably further but was limited to colony size. I have ranged mounds at 1000 yards but that seems about the limit for p-dogs. The magnification was excellent for the spotter to use to locate distant prairie dogs and spot shots well out to 550 yards. We used it a lot for that because it was better than binoculars. Can range a deer/antelope sized target at 1500 yards or more and a fox on the snow at 800 yards; maybe farther. Great for long range mountain elk. Ranges them at 2000 yards and gives me the adjusted range based on game elevation relative to me. Just an outstanding product. I hunt alongside numerous long range hunters and regardless of the one they bought, they all want to use my Bushnell Elite 1600 ARC. I highly recommend it. I have noticed that if you range an antelope on the prairie at say 800 yards you get the right range if you aim above and lower the range finder slowly to the target. The bottom of the laser cone seems to catch them for a precise range. Otherwise, if you focus on their head above the prairie grass, it may detect a piece of sagebrush at 500 yards and give you an incorrect range. I think all laser operated range finders will have this problem on the prairie. It's just a technique I have found to work with this great product. The ranges above are simply ranges with which I have experience. They do not express limitations of the optic. I suspect it might work out to a mile or more in some cases if you can range a neighboring rock or tree. If you want to hit a p-dog on the first try at 1000 yards, this is the product for you (as long as you, your rifle and your scope are great).
