I wanted to love this book...
I wanted to love this book...
wanted to soak it up and use it as inspiration...
it is full of interesting insights...
but it seems to boil down to the premise that "art for arts sake" has caused a downward spiral in the arts and that a return to the "good old days" of client/church/state guided sponsorship and patronage of the arts will halt the decline and return artists to the business of making "beautiful" art again...
I'm all for all manner of support.for the arts and artists, but that entails, to me, exclusivity of all the arts and artists, not just the narrowly judged "beautiful" art, but the exploration of the good, the bad , and the ugly ...
For art is truly in the eye of the beholder...
