The movie as craft.
The real star of this movie is the camera obscura, and Griffin Dunne's directing is the craft at its best.
Much more than a romantic comedy.

livre junkie
Kinda funny, I've seen used high-grade reels from Japan on ebay with Livre handles, and never thought they were very appetizing. Their big handles have a following among offshore anglers on our coasts.
They also make a range of knob sizes and shapes between 24mm and the thin rubber stock knobs, which no one else seems to. The more I read about advantages of light metal handle grasp, the more they grew on me.The idea behind a metal handle is they transmit more feel between the line and your fingers.
Livre titanium knobs for Shimano A and Daiwa S weigh between 8 and 14 g. If you try inexpensive pot-metal handles in the same sizes, they're up to 40 g, and even the stock big rubber handles are over 20 g. Most of the inexpensive carbon handles use the same 4 mm handle shafts and wear Live handles great, so you can buy one of the cheap handles with 40-g pot-metal knob and substitute a nice Livre knob. I've also splurged and bought a few Livre counter balanced handles, increasing handle length for my high speed reels.
This EF30 is going on a cheap carbon handle on a moderate 3000 size spinning reel - no photos of this yet - the photos I show are the remarkable EF37 (14 g), Fortissimo (24 mm - 14 g) and Forte (19 mm - 11 g)

not so illustrated
1 of 1 found this helpful This is a tough book to come by, it's out of print, and high interest in the subject. Abebooks and Amazon prices on used books can be quite high. Was happy to purchase on ebay for much lower than going prices. I would be very unhappy if I had paid more. It's easy to read, and the author does a good job of describing the history and growth of the business, and racing history of the marque. I would love to have seen something better illustrated, especially incorporating historic Raleigh catalogs.
