You can find great examples, but they are old
Lionel started this line in the early 2000's, and I think they were offering through late 2017. I have a spread sheet of all the GATX and CIBRO tank cars. There was also a CN Rail line (white) but I do not follow those.
Two things-You need to have the set with the head unit and end-of-train car to make a correct consist. The interconnecting hoses look cool, but they are a pain. The vinyl wears out and does not hold very well. And they will often separate on curves, anyway.
The second thing are the trucks-Lionel made these with articulated coupler arms, and those are no longer available. The trucks do wear out and start screeching or seizing, and it is a first-rate pain to know what to do about finding replacement trucks. I speak from experience, I have 23 of these tank cars. I would recommend looking for something more modern, without the hoses. Given the problems, the prices on the market are expensive.

The passengers are well made with very nice detailed interiors-but sketchy lighting..
The passenger cars are well made. Very nice detailed interiors, not silhouette cellophane on the windows. The only probably is the lighting, and it's old, whether the cars are NIB or not. A lot of flickering during run time, and half the dome car lighting is not working. There is also, as I discovered researching it, there is no easy way at all to open these cars up and service (unlike Atlas, which makes theirs hobby user friendly). So you need a pro. The cost to convert to LED lighting with a capacity will end up higher in total cost than having ordered the brand new Lackawanna 70-foot car set that is available from Atlas, this year. I would probably have done it differently, and not ordered these, had I known. So just consider what you want these cars to do for your layout. Just research it yourself, and you will find posts from a lot frustrated users that they are tough to crack open to service the lighting....

Hi build quality
Fabrication quality much superior than earlier Lionel ACF-style closed hoppers. I would like more like these.
