Best way to get rid of water

After years of using a hose to connect to my pool cover pump, this seems like a good way. I have burnt through 3-4 pumps by not having the hose lay flat on the surround. That seems to allow some residual water to stay in the hose, freeze and therefore act as a blockage. This little gizmo gets around the problem.
