If you don't want to take-apart your clutch
Replacing this clutch is the easiest way to replace the belt that drives the brush roll. If you're handy with snap-ring pliers, you can disassemble your own clutch and install a new (much cheaper) belt, but taking apart the clutch is a little tricky. However, there are step-by-step videos showing how to do it. It might be worth getting the belt replacement tools that stretch the belt so that you can slip the brush roll under it. I'm sure you could do it with just a strong hooked tool, but you'll need seven hands.(strong ones) Check for videos that show how to do it so you can judge what you feel comfortable taking on.

Tougher and safer.
I installed this fan during a restoration of a Kirby Heritage II that I found in a garage sale. It is great that Kirby makes these new, improved parts available for older models. I put in a new fan, motor brushes, ceramic motor bearings, and a LED headlight, and the machine is better than new. The fan itself was easy to install, and there are many videos on YouTube on how to do it. This fan replaces the old gray plastic original fan that tends to break when hit with hard debris with a Kevlar (or lexan) piece. You also get a new belt spindle.
