Amazing Rubber Dome Keyboard
1 of 1 found this helpful I have gone through piles of rubber dome keyboards. This BTC 51 series "M" variant is the best rubber dome I've ever used, with the Dell NMB quietkey a close 2nd. It's not even a "true" BTC 51 series because it does not use sliders like the earlier 51s.
According to deskthority, BTC decided to cut costs and eliminated sliders for the later M version, and instead put keys directly on rubber domes. I don't have an original BTC 51 to compare, so I can't say if the lack of sliders downgrades the performance. But if this inferior version is this good, then I can only imagine how much better the true BTC 51 series keyboards feel.
Update: I have a BTC 5130 Packard Bell keyboard to compare the AST against.
Verdict: They are almost identical in feel despite having different key attachment methods. The critical ingredient is the properties of the rubber dome. Hats off to the BTC rubber dome engineers. They knew how to reproduce that distinct snappy feel on a cheaper keyboard.
