Works...in a messy way
This absolutely performs as advertised. My deer hair mouse flies do float well for a dozen casts before being gnawed on by bass.
But it’s not like using a fresh fly, which will float far longer. So maybe it’s better to tie on a fresh fly if you need that fly to ride tip-top on the water’s surface. I think it’s a toss-up.
My main issue is that the floatant leaves white reside over everything. After application, I’ll false case a few times to allow it to dry on the fly, and the shake-off will get all over your float tube, and you’ll have little white spots all over your hat, float tube, shirt...
I’m getting more simple in my flyfishing as I get older, and I feel that this product, although it does work, is just another item I don’t really need on the water. I’ll just false cast a few times to get my fly on the surface again, and not have to wash off my float tube or Oakleys anymore.
