Completely upped my live performance game.
1 of 1 found this helpful It's essentially a simple little box, but its ease of use and the sheer flexibility it imbues to whatever gear it's paired with makes it a radically powerful game changer. It's an amazingly competent and easy to use looper with a lot of potential for live remix applications, plus it features some onboard drums, lots of excellent effects, synthesized pad, bass or lead sounds, plus the ability to grab a loop and slice parts out of that sound as it plays.
I usually pair the KP3+ to my Machinedrum UW, allowing me to fit an entire 2-hour live set of lush dub techno into a single backpack, travel to a venue, then set up in mere minutes. The looping functions grab samples perfectly from the Machinedrum and loop them immediately, allowing for seamless transitions between songs as well as the ability to grab specific parts of multiple tracks and combine them on the spot. A mere 20 or so original tracks can thus become an ever-evolving night of non-stop original music and visually appealing live performance. My favorite drum fills, effects and pads are easily accessed via the 8 programmable buttons above the touchpad, and the build quality is pretty good, too.
The best thing I can convey about this unit is that it really becomes a part of whatever it's paired with - to the extent that using it becomes a seamless, intuitive and instinct-driven experience. You hardly notice it after a while - you merely revel in the newfound creative freedom it's given you. Before long, you're giving your audience 110%, every time, creating beautiful and unexpected new songs from bits and pieces of your own pre-existing material and the KP3's wonderful on-board effects.
