Decision Before Dawn
1 of 1 found this helpful The film has a unique story and you can't beat the location. You get a nice feel for the atmosphere. Fans of the Germans will be disturbed by the anti-German cracks and one liners in the film and there's no real combat action, but despite this, the film is a must see for students of the period.

1612 Film
1 of 1 found this helpful I liked the realistic combat gore. The costumes and authenticity were excellent. The story was a bit slow & uneven at times and the music was uninspiring, but the overall plot was great. The good acting & camera work compensated for this a bit by many of Russia's professionals was inspiring. I decided to buy it because I liked the film "Ogniem i Mieczem.

Would you like to know Stalin personally?
This book is best described as a suppliment to the author's "Wartime." It describes his impressions as a communist revolutionary touring the USSR during WWII. Most of the book describes the country and people, but does provide additional insight on Stalin. This book is not for someone, who is not already somewhat familiar with Russian culture & history. I suggest you read "Wartime" first. It is a first rate memoir & war story and will provide a better context by which you can understand "Conversations with Stalin." This book is very valuable as it provides a personal, first hand impression of Stalin in a comfortable informal atmosphere. It's also important because its written by a non-Russian.
