Will need work to function.
Eye of the axe head comes with a large gap to the haft. It is significant enough that I would recommend inserting a sleeve. There is a hex nut in the back for tightening that is often driven into the wood of the haft and must be reset. Adding a wedge would also be a good idea. The edge is actually fairly decent right out of the box for woodsman activities. But you will need to sharpen it further if you intend to use it as a fighting axe. The haft is sturdy and laquered against light exposure to moisture. The length is a bit awkward for shorter folks. The haft is too short to be used as a huscarl's two handed axe but too long to use in a one handed role with a shield. Cutting the haft down would be a simple affair. Overall the two components are good for the price. The real downfall is in the terrible fitting.
