Great All Around Lens

Decent basic shotgun microphone
This microphone is better than most of the lower end microphones, like the Rodes, etc. You have to get to the $350-$400 range to see any improvement. Of course a shotgun mic is only improving the sound from a distance. It does not come close to equaling a close mic, either lavalier or other, but it does reject a lot of off-axis noise. I think it will be better if I switch to rolling off the lower tones, but haven't actually tried that yet. I was surprised that the Takstar 598 at $29 actually came closer than I expected. The Takstar is much bigger and bulkier.
Another feature of the Sennheiser is its small size. It is tiny for a real shotgun. I've had other Sennheisers before and wasn't expecting this little thing to work so well. It comes with a foam cover but I do wish I had a dead-cat for outdoor breezes. Haven't tried it--I will tonight--but . . . I also wish it came with even a cheap plastic hard case for protection.
I bought it as a factory refurbished unit and it both looked and worked as new. The vendor was great, 5 stars.

Has leaked from the first. The inlet connection is more complicated than necessary..
