My Favourie Film
I had a copy of this on VHS and hadn't been able to watch it for a while. I thought I would get it again and am so glad I did because it is a perfect comedy film. It is set in 1954 in New York and beautifully re-creates the making of a TV comedy show. It is the period when the classic period of Hollywood was waning and TV was kicking in.
The cast members are all marvelous. Peter O'Toole plays a fading Errol Flynn type movie star trying to come to terms with the new medium of TV, Joe Bologna is the TV star comic and Linn-Baker a young script-writer. They are all brilliant, but then so is everyone else. One of the 'extras' on the DVD is the 'directors commentary'. It was Richard Benjamin's first film as director and he explains how he cast the various roles and describes his relationship with the actors. O'Toole's skills as a comedy actor are given due credit. And all the minor parts were cast carefully so that all scenes were crammed full of brilliant performances. Apart from the main theme, the film is a celebration of New York and also of the Jewish community in Brooklyn. And it all looks so good.
A great film and really funny.

Good coverage and clear mapping
I like Nicolson's maps for traveling in Scotland because they are clear and provide coverage of a good area. It was just what I needed for a trip I am planning. I think Nicholsons have gone out of business, which is a real shame. So I was gladt o get hold of this one.
