Important notes on How I got it to work
It seems this camera likes to be added to your wifi network via a smartphone first. If you get stuck for seemingly doing something in the wrong sequence you might need to uninstall and re-install the app as well as reset the camera to try again. This camera likes Microsoft Internet explorer when you're getting it to show up on your laptop, which is now no longer security-updated, BUT you can make the camera's IP address (like 192.***.1.70 or whatever) the default home page for IE under "internet options." That was the browser I used when I installed the Sump*le app and first had the Ethernet cable hooked up, and then disconnected it when prompted. However after taking that initial step I now see when I log in from any internet browser that in the field to select "mode" you do NOT have to select "VLC." This camera is NOT dependent on VLC media Player or ActiveX controls. For "mode" you can select "server push" the same time you enter username and password. And presto it works. I view the video on a very outdated Sony Google "smart" TV and I need to re-enter and refresh after 10-20 minutes, but it works! It's also ONVIF - compliant which means it is interoperable with other security camera software and hardware brands. For instance, getting it to show up on your Sotion app or your Sotion camera to feed video to the Sumpple app is probably possible by going into the "port forwarding" settings. There are instructional YouTube videos for doing port forwarding and everything else, so I think I'm going to have this completely licked before long.

It worked out!
The bolts on the thermostat housing, my goodness. They have a little trouble affording stainless steel bolts or even anti-seize at the Ford factory. It pays to turn bolts every so often for routine maintenance.
