It's fun if you're 6!
0 of 1 found this helpful I bought this game for my 6 year old niece and she loved it. Since she knew all the words, she only had to concentrate on getting the pitch right (which really doesn't matter if you say the words just as long as the sound you are making is the pitch needed). We have barely started playing the game so I'm not sure if the features get better but as of now, they leave much to be desired. For one, you don't get to choose if you are a girl or a boy singing. My niece is very frustrated that she is stuck singing the boy parts of the song and she can't sing the girl parts unless it is a girl only song. I was frustrated that there is no save options after the songs so if we need to turn the PS2 off, next time we have to start from the beginning again. The game ranks you on an "A", "B" or "C" scale and if you get an "A", you unlock items. I haven't figured out how to use those items yet. I was expecting to be able to create my own character but the game does not have that option. The game menu is very limited and if you play on story mode, you have to sit through the boring voiceover before each song. They show pictures of the movie, not actual footage which makes for a boring wait for the song to begin. I have tried to bypass the voiceover but I couldn't. This game was very boring for me and even though my niece loved the fact that it was High School Musical, I think it bored her too. She loves singing the songs but not waiting for the songs to begin. My personal test for a good game is not wanting to turn it off and wanting to keep playing until I can't keep my eyes open anymore. When it was time to turn off the game, my niece didn't mind at all.
Overall, it is a cool game for the High School Musical fans but not a cool game for gamers. If you are both, then you might be able to sit through this game but you will be bored after a few songs. I hope Disney puts a bit more thought and personality into any future games under the HSM namesake.
