A delightful production
As a newbie to the world of watch collecting I have found this production from Abbeville Press is a delightful reference work. Presented in a colourful glossy format, it presents 192 pages of text and close up photographs of the most Classic Wristwatches in the world.
Here we read about the emergence of favourites like the Omega Speed master but also the history of the more timeless brands like Rolex and Zenith and Breitling. Indeed the authors treat us to 40 brands with some history and beautiful colour photographs of the variations of watch styles. The writers also add some suggested retail figures. While we would expect to see Patek Phillipe, Tissot and Vacheron Constantin we also get vignettes of lesser known makers like Universal Geneve, Fortis and Zodiac.
This is a beautifully produced reference work ideal for your study or lounge presented in more traditional way for those of us that do not want to squint over a youtube video on a iphone.

This is a visual and historical feast.
This is a well presented documentary from the BBC covering three outstanding Athenian leaders, Themistocles, Pericles and Socrates. It is a visually stunning DVD with an excellent summary covering the rise of Athens, the Persian war then the decline of Athens during the Peloponnesian war.
For those interested in ancient politics this DVD is highly recommended
