Smoking Shocking Letdown
6 of 9 found this helpful When first plugged in this soldering iron smoked like a sieve. It smelt like burning plastic.. Not a good start.
2nd, it doesn't fit the standard soldering tips. You're stuck with the fat tip it comes with. If you take out the tip it comes with, and manage to put a standard tip in it (just to get the job done), you will never get your tip back out. Just leave it in there, because you will destroy the iron trying to remove a standard tip from it.
Then, after I finally get the standard tip out of it, I place the original tip back in. It's fully inserted, too deep without a working setscrew. I'm trying to decided how I'm going to drill out the broken off setscrew inside. I go to touch/remove the inserted tip from iron and I get shocked.. Yea, my fault for leaving it plugged in.. But really, the device was powered off at the switch. I shouldn't really be getting shocked.
No, I would not buy again...
No, I would not really recommend this unless you do very simple soldering and don't mind the smell of burnt plastic. The smell goes away after about 10 minutes. Leave the original tip in. Don't mess with it.
Is it good quality? At least with the model that I received, not even close.
Oh, and the soldering iron melts the plastic around the iron's mount/stand when you have it placed within the stand while working with the iron hot.
