Right subject, wrong author?
I hate to give only three stars to a New Naturalist book (one for another excellent Robert Gillmore jacket, one for the photographs and one for being sturdy and attractively put together, as always).
Unfortunately, this book seems to be an unfortunate mismatch of subject and author, combined with a lack of editorial oversight: Stefan Buczacki is an excellent and knowledeable populariser of gardening and nature in general, but more than this is needed here.
The great strength of the New Naturalist series is the combination of scientific depth and rigour with accessibility of content to any reader with determination and a good glossary. This particular title, however, provides access only to what could be found in any number of readily available gardening books.
We have the introduction to this subject, but are still waiting for the book.

Fire Season
A brilliant book: interesting and well written, with a compelling eye for detail. Recommended!

Lovely bottle, lovely ink.
A glowing, bright orange - really nice. All the Iroshizuku inks are silky and free flowing, and this is the same, making it a pleasure to write with. Possibly better in a wider nib, allowing the full depth of colour to emerge: when I tried it with an extra fine nib the colour was quite a bit paler. It's closest in colour to Noodler's Habanero, but a little brighter.
A beautiful colour and a well behaved, gorgeous ink.
