Beautiful and functional but a bit pricey
It is the most amazing butter dish I have ever seen. It has all the design features I wanted but couldn't find in any other dish. I know a great butter dish should not seem like a big deal, but it is for me. I wanted one that would be large enough for Kerrygold butter bricks I buy at Costco but not be too big for easy handling. I wanted something my kitties couldn't get into. I wanted a raised rim around the bottom plate in case of melting, but not so high you can't easily cut the butter all the way down to the bottom. The ridges on the bottom plate were an added bonus I never even thought of, keeps butter in place while using or moving the dish around. The lid does not hit the butter's sides or top even when moving. Believe it or not, I have tried at least 10 different styles of butter dishes and this is absolutely the best one out there for my needs. The heavy ceramic will keep butter cooler in the summer months too so that you can leave butter out and light or heat won't contaminate your butter either. We use butter a great deal for cooking and serving meals so I wanted a beautiful functional piece. This is it!! Pricey but hopefully worth it. I can't speak to durability yet because I have not used it for very long, but I will update this review if reasonable expectations are not met. I love this butter dish!
