Michigan by George S. May (1987)
This book is a beautiful hardbound edition with photographs on every page. It gives the history of Michigan from pre-historic to late 20th century. T he book covers American History as experienced through the Indian tribes, the lumber industry and of course the automobile industry. For me, it gave me an overview of the state where I had lived for 11 years and yet did not understand the whole history of Michigan. The dust jacket has a splendid picture of the Macanaw Bridge. The book tells the evolution of this amazing engineering project which they thought was impossible. The longest bridge in the world. These are some of the reasons I bought the book. An educational trip with nostalgia.
