A wonderful starter lens or a very reliable casual knocker lens.
This is an idea walking around lens. It might not take the sharpest pictures compared to the more expensive Nikon models, but the contrast/saturation is very acceptable. Although it's not a macro lens, at 80mm, you can get some very good closeup shots (eg. bugs on flowers). The hidden beauty of the lens is that it is generally an ignored and forgotten lens, and as such goes for peanuts. A down side for some may be that it's a D type lens. It will not auto focus on a camera without a body screw drive (eg. D40). I've used it on both types of cameras and didn't find the manual focusing to be a problem. Look at this this way, you get Nikon quality for $30... if you're lucky.

Kastar Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for Nikon ENEL14 EN-EL14a (27126) DSLR Camera

It worked.
This particular battery worked just fine in my D3100 right out of the box. In the past, I've had problems with off-brand batteries, and as a rule, bought brand specific batteries. I may reconsider future purchases.
