A very usable neck pickup for soloing
I replaced a stock neck pickup in a boutique maker's guitar because the stock unit was muddy with little definition for both chording and soloing. I have owned Music Man Petrucci signature models in the past and knew that the answer might be a ceramic magnet pickup, so I decided to give this a shot.
This pickup is not "hot". It is definitely more of a PAF type, but to my ear, that lets the character of the guitar come through. Note definition and clarity is excellent and with the right amount of gain or boost, there is plenty of sweet singing sustain and tone, much like Petrucci's, for soloing. Chords ring out with each note being distinguishable. Very happy with the decision to purchase. Wiring was easy (if you're handy and knowledgeable).
One note: "white" in this case was not as white as the pickup I replaced. It's more of a parchment white. It doesn't bother me, as the tone is more important to me, but it's just worth mentioning.
If you are looking to improve the fidelity of both chording and soloing in the neck position, this would be a good fit especially paired with another PAF or slightly hot PAF-type pickup.
