Good intro to Buddhism and it's history.
For the person unfamiliar or only casually familiar with Buddhism this is an excellent introduction. Personally I would have liked more attention to the Mahayana and Zen - Soto and Rinzai - sects given more detail and perhaps better explanation of the haiku poetry and it's relationship to Zen.
