    VINTAGE SLOT CARS
BEING A 1/24TH SCALE SLOT CAR ENTHUSIAST FROM THE SIXTIES I PULLED ALL OF MY CARS FROM MY YOUTH OUT OF THE ATTIC AND LOOKED THEM OVER, THE MORE I LOOKED THE MORE I WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THESE SLOT CARS. WHEN I WENT TO DO MY RESEARCH I FOUND EVERYONE REFERENCING "VINTAGE SLOT CARS" BY PHILIPPE DELESPINAY, SO I BOUGHT ONE. THE BOOK WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR IN REFERENCE MATERIAL TO ALL OF THE MAJOR BRANDS OF 1/24TH AND 1/32ND SCALE SLOT CARS FROM THE SIXTIES. IT WAS WELL LAID OUT WITH PLENTY OF COLOR PHOTOS (EVEN THOUGH I WOULD HAVE LIKED MORE). THE BOOK WAS WELL WRITEN WITH A GOOD REFERENCE TO THE HISTORY OF THESE CARS AND THE MEN BEHIND MANUFACTURING THEM. MY ONLY REGRET I DID'NT PULL THE BOX OF SLOT CARS OUT OF THE ATTIC TEN YEARS AGO WHEN THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED.

King of the Kustomizers: The Art of George Barris by Brett Barris

    Very well researched and written
This book is an excellent history lesson on Georges life and his iconic custom creations, the pictorial history of his cars are very well detailed in full color with tribute to his TV and movie cars, model cars and personalized customs for the Hollywood stars, very well done! Highly recommend this extra thick book to any Barris enthusiast!

GREAT PICTURE BOOK, not so great writing
If you are interested in a book with some very nice GTO photography, this book is for you. Mr. Newhardt did an excellent job, he also found some very interesting historical photos. If you would like to read about the GTOs 50 year history it is very obvious, Mr.Holmstrom did not do his homework as several of the captions and years of vehicles were incorrectly printed. It is to bad he did not have a good proof reader that knew GTOs. Sadly he is also very opinionated and it shows poorly in is writing. I actually had to close the book and put it away after reading his out and out deception about his reference to John DeLorean and the Shakespearean tragedy. It is very obvious he did not have a clue what he was writing about! Mr.DeLorean was the General Manager of Pontiac, Mr.Jack Humbert was the chief designer that made them look so good, and "Mac" McKellar was the one that made them go! Marketing sells the sizzle but has nothing to do with the actual product development.
